CFP® practitioners must agree to abide by the CFP Board’s Code of Ethics which requires certificants to practice financial planning with fairness and integrity. We agree to make recommendations that are objective and based on your needs.
But the requirements don’t end there…
CFP® certificants must complete a rigorous course of study and complete a 10-hour exam testing seven areas of financial planning:
- Principles of Financial Planning
- Retirement Planning
- Investment Planning
- Insurance Planning and Risk Management
- Employee Benefits Planning
- Income Tax Planning
- Estate Planning
In order to maintain a high level of competence in an ever-changing industry, we are also required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education every two years.
The Financial Planning Process:
- Establishing and defining the client-planner relationship
- Gathering client data, including goals
- Analyzing and evaluating the client’s financial status
- Developing and presenting financial planning recommendations and/or alternatives
- Implementing the financial planning recommendations
- Monitoring the financial planning recommendations
